About Set IEP Expectations

Anticipate and avoid roadblocks by setting your expectations for your child’s upcoming IEP.  Before your child’s upcoming IEP, copy and paste the following message into your email.  Personalize the message by making any necessary changes.  Then email the message to all members of your child’s IEP team.  Email it as soon as you know of the IEP date.  Email more than once if you think it’s necessary.

Good day,

Our child’s, NAME’s, IEP meeting has been scheduled for DATE at TIME.

  • Please allow a minimum of two hours for the meeting.
  • Please ensure that all IEP team members are present [for an online meeting add:] with cameras on and participating without distractions for the entire meeting.
  • [If assessments have been completed for the meeting:] So that we can prepare for meaningful participation in our child’s IEP, please provide copies of assessment reports, assessment protocols, score reports for academic assessments including age and grade level equivalencies a week before the IEP meeting.  At the same time, please provide a draft copy of the IEP including but not limited to progress on previous goals with substantiating documentation, present levels of performance, proposed goals and any other paperwork that will be presented at the meeting.

  • Please note: We will audio record the meeting and our child’s advocate will accompany us.
